The Clock is Ticking…

I am overwhelmed by the responses I have been getting since I came back from my 2 month long blogging hiatus…But now is a great time to get down to business!  As 2011 passes us, I know some of you are striving to go vegan or some of you are already vegan but wish to drop the extra pounds.  I know the last goal sounds silly to some of you but despite popular belief, there are overweight/obese vegans.  Let me break it down to all of you in a way that the newbie vegans (and even the vegan old timers) would understand…

I guess for starters, when you see movies like Forks Over Knives, you assume that going vegan is going to make you thin.  I’m not questioning the movie but there’s another side to the vegan lifestyle that was not mentioned in the film.  These are the fabulous vegan businesses that cater to customers who veganize old favorites (Damn you, Cleo’s!) or proudly display new vegan creations that are drop dead delicious but far from healthy.  Yep, vegans deal with the consequences of junk food as much as the omnivore.  A word to the wise: Just because it is vegan, does NOT mean it’s healthy!  Now repeat that a few times so you don’t forget 😉

Now I’ll let you in on a personal experiment I have been doing before the holidays…I really, really rethought the way I ate, I made sure I ate nothing but whole, unprocessed foods.  I even omitted mock meats completely out of my diet and incorporated more raw foods.  I also kept up my workout routine (5 days a week, an hour a day) and lost 10 lbs in one week!  Now before I get emails from people thinking I’m promoting a miracle drug, this was most likely my body’s way of thanking me because later on around the holidays, when I had my typical vegan Christmas meal (which was healthier but not 100% healthy), I actually threw up that night :p  Before I go any further, some of you are probably thinking that because my blog is primarily a healthy eating (with vegan parenting ideas/tips coming soon!) blog, that I am perfect in my dietary choices.  Let’s be honest here…I am no more perfect than all of you.  I cave whenever there’s a plate of french fries in front of my face and I, too yearn for my 24 year old figure back in my life again…And this year, my goal is to get it back!

Now this is where all of you come in, the key to any successful goal is to have those around you to hold you accountable.  My good friend Cassidy was that person when I went to the gym until she injured herself while training for a marathon.  I’m hoping her physical therapist allows her to do more things soon so I can have my buddy back!!!  But anyways, not all of you have that friend close by who will push you to the gym or encourage you in your transition to a better vegan lifestyle.  I noticed that my website has roughly over 2,000 followers (yeah…I’m shocked too! Most are following me via email) and counting and I feel we can set the stage for something very positive.  Since my Blogger account is far from fancy since it is a free site, the best way is that every Sunday (New Year’s falls on Sunday, hence the day of choice!), I will post my progress and all of you can post your progress on the Comments section.  And I don’t want to limit this to those wishing to lose weight or eat healthier, I open this floor to any goal you may have….for example, maybe some of you out there are are probably trying to drive your car less, spend less time on Facebook, etc.  I want to hear from all of you!!!  Best of all, this is a great way to interact with other people who read my blog and I think we can have a lot of fun with it 🙂

So with that being said???  What are your thoughts on this idea???

  1. EmmaPat…My friend Cassidy goes to a physical therapist that incorporates Pilates with her treatment. Maybe that could be something to start off with??
